Aim to drink 8 to 20 ounces of water 30 minutes before your session and sip water throughout your workout. The last thing you want to do is injure yourself. Taking it slow allows you to listen to your body because you may not realize that you have hidden joint issues. It also gives you time to adapt to the new workload you are putting on your body. Start with bodyweight exercisesBefore adding weights to your exercise program, go with bodyweight exercises for the first 2 to 3 weeks before you go into lifting weights. This will help improve your range of motion. You want to make sure you can move without any issues. Add weight to your lifting exercises slowly over timeThe concept called progressive overload is to make your workouts more challenging over time to place more stress on your muscles and central nervous systems. Measure ProgressOne of the main benefits of strength training is getting stronger. Strength is measured by being able to lift more. But there are a host of other benefits.
